Configure development tools
Configure development tools for devices in Preferences > Devices. The available tools vary depending on the device type and enabled plugins.

Tool configuration options for a desktop device in the Devices tab in Devices preferences.
To configure tools for a device:
- Go to Preferences > Devices > Devices.
- Select an existing device from Device.
- In Type Specific > Run Tools on This Device or Source and Build Tools on This Device, specify the paths to the tools.
Or, in Auto-Detection, configure the auto-detection options and then select Run Auto-Detection Now.
- For remote Linux, Docker, and WSL devices, select Kit Creation > Create kits targeting to create a kit for using the automatically detected development tools. Or, select Create Kits Now to create kits for the toolchains that are already set up for the device.
Kits for toolchains that target the operating system of the device use the device that you select in the list as run device. By default, this is the device itself. To have the kits use another device with the same operating system, for example a board that you cross-compile for on the device, select that device before creating the kits. The choice does not change kits that already exist.
